Citizens of European Union (EU) countries (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom), citizens of European Economic Area (EEA) countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), and citizens of Switzerland, do not require any visa for any type of visit or stay in the Czech Republic in effect from May 1, 2004.
Citizens of the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico are not required to have a tourist visa to visit the Czech Republic for the period up to 90 days. Visa are still required for work. Visas are also required for stay exceeding 90 days.
Please note that you are required to have a travel/health insurance to travel to the Czech Republic. Your health insurance must cover the medical services abroad - if not, you must have a travel insurance for possible expenses and hospitalization charges for medical reasons (accidents or unexpected illness while traveling in the Czech Republic),including repatriation to the country of your legal residence or to the country which issued your travel document. Minimum coverage of the insurance has to be at least $ 38,000. Make sure you will have a proof (for example: a letter issued by the insurance company, or a copy of the contract or any other document which will give the detailed information on the type and coverage of your insurance) of your medical insurance with you when entering the Czech Republic.

If you are required to have a visa to enter the Czech Republic, please note the following change – since September 1, 2006, a Czech transit visa (for stays up to 5 days) is not required if you fulfill one of the following criteria. You posses a valid:
- Schengen visa Type B and Type C;
- Visa Type B and Type C issued by a new EU member state (Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia);
- Visa Type D issued by an EU member state, Iceland, or Norway;
- Residency permit issued by an EU member state[/color], Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, or Liechtenstein.
A visa or residency permit must be valid during the time of your stay in the Czech Republic. A visa with limited territorial validity (for example, valid only for one state) is not acceptable for this purpose. Visas and residency permits issued by Ireland and the United Kingdom are also not acceptable for this purpose.
With the exception of EU citizens your passport must be valid for at least another 6 months from the date of arrival to the Czech Republic.
The Czech Republic si not part of the EU Schengen area. The visa issued by the Czech Embassy or Consulate is valid only on the territory of the Czech Republic.
